Coloured Quartz Application Guide

Coloured quartz is made from spheroidal quartz sands and gravel which are pigmented with high quality colours.

Quartz gravel is bound in clear polyurethane or epoxy resins. An acrylic filler coat is used to seal the finished matt.

Quartz sands are used to create fine quartz flooring systems, these are manufactured using kiln dried coloured sands which are bound together using tough solvent-free epoxy resin. We only recommend for a long lasting finish to use UV stable resin. Learn more about UV stable resin on our resin bonded website.

The surface is sealed with further coats of epoxy resin and a matt coat is applied to increase slip resistance, which in turn allows the surfaces to be cleaned easily. These aesthetically appealing surfaces can be created in any RAL colour. These surfaces are very hard wearing and can be used for heavy industrial floors. This waterproof flooring can be coved to form an integral skirting for wet areas and ease of cleaning.

Colours

Any colour specific to the RAL colour range can be achieved. This is the case for all quartz and the various size fractions. Other materials such as granite may require a special blend of pigments in order to achieve a representative colour.

Size Fractions

We can provide coloured and pigmented Quartz from sizes as fine as 0.1mm for really smooth surfaces right up to 6mm.

The size ranges are:

  • 0.1-0.3mm

  • 0.3-0.6mm

  • 0.4-0.8mm

  • 0.7-1.2mm

  • 1.2-1.8mm

  • 2.0-3.0mm

  • 3.0-6.0mm

Uses

Hospitals where hygiene is paramount.

Internal quartz surfaces are manufactured using fine quartz particles mixed with resin, this mix provides a smooth finish that is particularly important for uses in areas that require a high standard of hygiene. For example: commercial kitchens, bathrooms, hospitals and prison cells.

These products are also ideal for areas requiring a high level of aesthetics, such as in retail or commercial applications.

Laying Conditions

It is critical, as with any surfacing area, that the preparation is of a sound and clean nature prior to application.

The resins used are specific to the type of application required, but we only recomend the use of UV stable resin for any resin bonded or bound application, as this ensure a long lasting finish. There are many types available and are used depending on application.
